Company advises Texas of expected 300 layoffs

AUSTIN, TX

The Texas Workforce Commission on Monday announced the anticipated mass job cuts by Leander-based J.C. Evans Construction Co. Inc.

A lawyer for the company, in a letter last month to the commission, said the layoffs are expected after J.C. Evans on Aug. 1 filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization. The layoffs will affect workers throughout the company.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN, helps ensure advance notice in cases of qualified closings and mass layoffs.

A spokeswoman for J.C. Evans and a company attorney did not immediately return messages Monday to The Associated Press.
