Dynamo's Ching claimed with top pick in expansion draft

HOUSTON

Wednesday afternoon, forward Brian Ching was selected by the Montreal Impact with the first pick in the MLS expansion draft.

Ching, 33, is the Dynamo's team captain and all-time leading scorer with 63 goals in all competitions and 51 in regular-season play. Ching, the 2006 MLS Cup most valuable player, saw limited action in 2011 due to injury, the lowest minute total of his Houston career, yet still tied for the team lead with five goals.

Ching had said that if he was taken in the expansion draft, he would retire from playing and join the Dynamo in the front office.
