Mom charged after 1-year-old tests positive for cocaine

HOUSTON

Ashley Jones, 30, is charged with endangering a child over the incident that took place back in May. Court documents state that Jones told a Houston police officer that she took her one-year-old daughter to a well known drug house in the 400 block of Woolworth. While there, she left the baby with a friend while she used the restroom.

Early the next morning, Jones said the girl was crying and shivering, but she thought it was due to a recent infection. A couple of hours later she took the baby to the emergency room at Texas Children's Hospital. She said her daughter was shaking and gasping for air, and her eyes were rolling back in her head.

A drug test at the hospital showed the baby tested positive for cocaine and opiates. Jones faces one felony charge of endangering a child, and bail is set at $2,000.
