$3.8M donated for Central Texas wildfires relief

AUSTIN, TX

The Austin American-Statesman reported Monday that most of the donations will go toward long-term relief for fire-affected residents of Bastrop and Travis counties.

More than 1,500 homes in Bastrop County were destroyed in wildfires blamed for two deaths.

The donations ended up mostly with nonprofit organizations and church groups, led by the Austin Community Foundation with $1.2 million. The group benefited from an October concert in Austin that raised about $725,000.

The Austin Disaster Relief Network, made up of more than 100 churches, has received $400,000 in donations.

The American Red Cross of Central Texas, which operated shelters during the wildfires, has received $861,000.
