District leaders held a press conference on Monday night, saying they plan to vigorously battle the TEA's decision to close the district by all legal means.
The North Forest ISD superintendent was flanked by reinstated board members and an education attorney to make it clear they plan to contest the TEA's decision to close the district next July and allow HISD to annex it.
This comes after North Forest ISD earned an "academically unacceptable" rating the last three years and a substandard financial rating for four straight years.
The superintendent says improvements are taking place, they just need more time.
"It's important to note that this year's academic and financial improvements are not being considered as part of the appeals indicators. The work that is currently taking place in the 2011-2012 school year will be rated in 2013-2014," North Forest ISD superintendent Edna Forte said.
Now North Forest plans to pursue a second-level appeal at the state level, and they have hired an attorney specializing in education to build their case.
