Houston area honors servicemembers on Veteran's Day

HOUSTON

Mayor Annise Parker along with military and veteran leaders honored veterans at 10am outside Houston City Hall, followed by the American Heroes Parade, which began at 11:30am at Smith and Texas.

Staging for the parade will be on the following streets:

  • Preston between Bagby and Smith
  • Prairie between Milam and Bagby
  • Prairie between Milam and Travis (one north lane and one south lane only)
  • Texas between Smith and Louisiana (one north lane only)
  • Smith between Congress and Texas
  • Louisiana between Texas and Preston
  • Milam between Preston and Texas (one west lane only).

    From 11 until 2pm there is a job fair for veterans outside of City Hall.

    Parking is offered for free in the Theater District Parking garage from 9am until 12pm.

    Here are some events being held around town today in honor of Veterans Day:

    The San Jacinto Monument is also offering free admission to military personnel and their families. The offer is valid through Sunday.

    Honoring Veterans, Buffalo Soldiers National Museum is free to veterans today, 100am to 5pm, 1834 Southmore.

    San Jacinto Museum of History, "A Special Evening with Texas History", dinner, Sen. John Cornyn will speak 6:45 pm, One Monument Circle.

    Robison Elementary Event, veterans and members of the military will visit with students, CyWoods ROTC will attend today at 9am.

    Klein ISD Salute to Veterans, Kleb Intermediate will hold breakfast for veterans at 8:00am.

    Schindewolf Intermediate will display artwork honoring veterans; Krahn, Schultz, Epps Island, Kreinhop, Theiss, Brill, Northampton and Blackshear Elementaries will also honor veterans.

    Veterans Day Ceremony, Clear Falls High School, today at 7am, 4380 Village Way.

    Dickinson Veteran's Day Parade, 9am, Saturday, Regions Bank at FM 517 and Hwy3 to VFW Post 6378 on Hwy 3.

    Cy Woods Retirement Community, Remembrance Ceremony today at 11am; Spaghetti Dinner tomorrow at 5:30pml Honoring our Heroes on Sunday at 10am -- donations accepted for Outward Bound for Veterans.
