Charges have been filed against a suspect in the fatal carjacking of a man at 6220 Fairdale about 9:10pm on October 23.

Esvin Sabonluis and his wife were walking from their apartment to their vehicle in the parking lot when they were approached and greeted casually by two men. As Sabonluis and his wife got into their vehicle, the suspects robbed them at gunpoint. While demanding the victims' property, the suspects shot and killed Sabonluis. It is believed the suspects then fled the scene on foot. Sabonluis, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police determined the suspects had arrived at the Fairdale location in a vehicle stolen in a robbery at 12475 Woodforest the previous day. In that incident, a man was robbed of his vehicle, wallet and cell phone by four suspects. The vehicle, a black Chevrolet Avalanche, was located abandoned at the Fairdale location.

A Crime Stoppers tip led to the identification of Javon Bernard Bryant-Metoyer, 19, as a suspect in this case and on Tuesday, he was arrested without incident. He has been charged with capital murder.

The search continues for the second suspect, described only as a black male in his early to mid 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with dark skin and a thin build.

Anyone with information in this case, or on the whereabouts of the second suspect, is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
