Neighbor charged after allegedly fathering underage girl's baby

HOUSTON

Himmer Amilcar Beltran-Rodriguez, 31, has been charged with sexual assault of a child. According to court documents, in the spring of 2008, a 15-year-old girl came into contact with Beltran-Rodriguez because he lived in the same complex, and the girl worked as a babysitter for his wife.

The girl told police that Beltran-Rodriguez began to make flirty gestures toward her, escalating into sneaking off to the mail room to kiss. The girl says she told him she was only 15 years old and he allegedly responded that was why they needed to sneak around, so that her father wouldn't discover the relationship and call police.

By about October 2008, the girl told police that Beltran-Rodriguez had convinced her to sneak out of her apartment at 3am each day to spend time with him in his bedroom. During one of these secret visits, the girl says he pressured her to have sex, saying it was the only way for her to "show her love for him."

Court documents state the sexual relationship continued until about December 2009 when the victim became pregnant. At that time she was 16 years old and Beltran-Rodriguez was 29. The teen's parents became aware of the relationship and put an end to it.

Police say Beltran-Rodriguez admitted to investigators that he was the father of the girl's baby. According to police, he also admitted that he knew their sexual relationship was against the law, but he told them he thought it would be OK if the girl's parents approved.

No bond has been set in the case.
