Man accused of hitting wife while she was holding baby

HOUSTON

According to court documents, Joseph Floyd Toran was riding home from a sports bar on August 13 with his common law wife and their 5-week-old daughter. The woman says she was driving when Toran told her to slow down then pulled the parking brake causing the vehicle to come to an abrupt stop.

Court documents state Toran struck the woman in the face with the back of his hand, then got out of the passenger seat, walked around the vehicle and began banging on the driver side door.

The woman told investigators she then picked up the baby and opened the door to the vehicle when Toran began hitting her repeatedly in the face. She said she was trying to walk away from Toran when he grabbed her by the hair, causing her to fall and the baby's head to hit the vehicle's door.

Toran then got into the vehicle and drove away, the woman told investigators.

Toran, 25, is charged with endangering a child. Bond has been set at $2,000.
