Bicyclist fatally struck by pizza delivery driver

HOUSTON

We first told you about it on Eyewitness News at 10pm Monday night. The crash happened on Huffman-Cleveland Road on the far northeast side of Harris County.

According to investigators, this may just have been a case where a driver did not see the man on the motorized bike.

The case is under investigation to determine if speed or alcohol were factors. Deputies say at around 8pm Monday night, a man was riding down Huffman-Cleveland near FM 2100 when a 19-year-old delivering pizzas for Big B Pizzeria did not see the man and struck him from behind, fatally injuring the rider.

The teenager stayed at the scene with the victim. Other drivers had to swerve to avoid hitting the victim again. This is a two-lane road that does not have street lights, so there is not good visibility. It was a factor that definitely contributed to the accident.

Neighbors were familiar with this man and say he was a frequent rider on this highway.

The victim has been identified as 58-year-old Russell Brandon. His autopsy is scheduled for today.

There is no word on any charges that may be filed against the driver
