Residents in a north Houston neighborhood say they are used to hearing random gunshots in the night from time to time.

One resident who lives near the 1200 block of Barkley St. at Airline Dr. just south of Crosstimbers heard a single gunshot around 4am Sunday, but thought nothing of it.

It wasn't until about an hour later that a person walking down the street saw the victim lying in a drainage ditch. Houston police say the man then went to a nearby convenience store where he called 911.

Houston police say the victim, believed to be 35-40 years old, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Science.

Police have no information on the shooter. They said the only witness who has come forward was the resident who heard the shot fired.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
