Pay by phone parking program unveiled

HOUSTON

Mayor Annise Parker announced Thursday a city-wide "pay by phone" parking program that helps residents pay to park by either calling an 800 number, or by using a smart phone application.

This morning was the ribbon cutting announcement for the program near Discovery Green. The new technology is designed to make parking easier by giving people more payment options.

"We're not the first city to roll this out. It's been perfected elsewhere, but we want to be the city that rolls it out fastest, most efficiently and in a very smooth and seamless process," the mayor said.

HShe added that this program will make Houston the largest user of a pay by phone service in the southwest U.S.
