Safety measures in place at Wings Over Houston

HOUSTON

A Friendswood volunteer firefighter was among seven killed at a plane crash at a Reno air race in September. Just a few days after the Reno crash, another plane crash at an air show in West Virginia killed the pilot of a World War II-era plane.

Officials at the Houston show say safety measures are in place to protect visitors during any emergency.

About 85,000 people are expected to attend the event.

Officials say safety is their top priority.

There will be acrobatics at Wings Over Houston, but the local show is an air show and not an air race like the one in Nevada, so the aircrafts are not modified.

No one has been killed or injured at the local air show since its inception.
