Today marks the tenth anniversary of the high rise fire that killed Houston Fire Department Captain Jay Jahnke. That tragic loss led to many changes in the Houston Fire Department.

His family and dozens of firefighters attended a memorial service for Capt. Jahnke at his old station, Fire Station 2 in the Tanglewood area. Jahnke died in a high rise near the Galleria on October 13th, 2001. Jahnke has many relatives that served or are serving in HFD.

"The Jahnkes have a huge, huge lot of people in the fire department. This was the ten year anniversary and we just wanted, we put it out to whoever wanted to come and we've had a great turnout," said Mary Ann Jahnke McNeil.

Jahnke's death led to several changes in the fire department including the staffing of fire trucks and firefighting techniques.
