The accident happened just after 9:30am near College and Main, in the 700 block of Iowa. According to South Houston police, when officers arrived at the home, they were told that a 14-month-old girl had been run over by a pickup truck in the driveway.
Apparently the toddler's aunt was getting ready to sweep under the car port and she needed her husband, who is the uncle of the toddler, to move his truck so she could sweep. Police say she went inside the home and ask him to move the truck. The uncle went outside to and the toddler followed behind him without his knowledge.
Police say the uncle, Daniel Almendarez, 55, began to move the truck and ran over the toddler with the left rear tire. The little girl, Fernanda Rodriguez, was transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital and was later pronounced dead.
No charges will be filed in this case.
