Family accused of stealing more than $1M in gold

HOUSTON

Ion Miclescu, Ileana Miclescu, Mirela Miclescu, and Constantin Miclescu are all charged with theft. Court documents state that on September 4, seven people entered Bawa Jewelers on Hillcroft soon after it opened and began working together to distract an employee and his wife so that they could get to the store safe.

Investigators say they reviewed store surveillance video and saw a female, later identified as Ileana Miclescu, crawl under the counter, move items from the open safe into a bag, then take the bag out of the store.

In the surveillance video, a man, identified as Constantin Miclescu, could be seen reaching over the counter, investigators say, and pressing the door release button so Ileana could exit the store. The other suspects then left the store at about the same time.

According to court documents, an employee of the Miclescu's apartment complex positively identified the suspects in the surveillance photos.

The stolen items were valued at approximately $1.6 million, police say.

The suspects allegedly cased another jewelry store nearby just minutes before the theft at Bawa Jewelers.

Bond has been set at $3,200,000.
