Two-alarm fire rips through west Houston condos

HOUSTON

Just after 10pm Saturday, a fire broke out in an apartment in the 2400 block of Bering near Westheimer. Residents reportedly heard explosions and then saw flames.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames shooting from the two-story condo. Officials say the fire quickly went to two alarms as it grew intense and a portion of the building collapsed.

The blaze ended up gutting several condos and the building could now be demolished.

All residents got out safely. Two firefighters were injured battling the flames. One was transported with chest pains and another suffered a back injury.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
