Woman accused of stealing mom's credit card in hospital

HOUSTON

Maureen Loretta Garza, 31, is charged with credit/debit card abuse. According to court documents, Garza's 70-year-old mother Maureen Macygin-Garza was in the hospital in July when Garza came to visit her. Upon her release from the hospital, the mother discovered fraudulent charges on her Kohl's department store credit card, court documents state, and she noticed her card was missing from her purse.

Investigators say they requested surveillance video from a Kohl's store in Cypress and sent still photos of the person making the fraudulent transactions to the elder Garza. She positively identified her daughter in the surveillance pictures, according to investigators.

The mother told investigators she never gave her daughter permission to use her credit card.

Bond has been set at $5,000.
