Driver accused of causing fatal wreck

HOUSTON

Jesus Alberto Acosta, 20, faces a charge of criminally negligent homicide. He is accused in the death of a 40-year-old man who was pronounced dead at LBJ Hospital. The victim's identity has not been released.

Police say Acosta was driving a gray Infiniti G35 northbound on the Eastex Freeway, along with the drivers of a silver Nissan pickup truck, a red Ford pickup truck, a red Honda motorcycle (operated by the victim) and a black Chevrolet pickup truck (or SUV). Witnesses reported it appeared the Infiniti, the Chevrolet and possibly the motorcycle were racing when Acosta's Infiniti struck the Nissan in the left lane. The Infiniti then swerved to the right, struck the Ford and then went onto the shoulder and hit a small tree. The victim then struck the Ford before losing control and sliding sideways on his motorcycle across the freeway.

The victim was transported to the hospital where he died. The driver of the Chevrolet fled the scene. There were no other injuries involved in the accident. The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information on the driver who fled in the black Chevrolet truck is urged to contact the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division at 713-247-4072.
