Conroe resident Darryl Day was walking up to his house in the 16500 block of Rabon Chapel when he heard tires squeal, and then a loud crash.

A Dodge pickup had struck a tree.

Day rushed over to the truck. The cab was full of smoke and the vehicle appeared to be on fire, he said.

There were two men in the back seat of the truck and one in the front seat.

Montgomery County officials arrived on scene and rushed all three passengers to area hospitals. Two were in critical condition and the other was stable.

The 16-year-old driver did not survive the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to investigators, the vehicle was speeding westbound on Rabon Chapel when it left the roadway to the right. The driver then over-corrected and struck a tree head-on on the south side of the roadway.

All victims appeared to be in their teens. Their identities have not been released.

Day said vehicles often speed on his street.
