Adults get life-sized sandbox near Las Vegas Strip

Sandboxes are for kids, but adults in Sin City can now play with life-sized excavators and bulldozers usually operated by trained professionals.

For a few hundred dollars, tourists spend a few hours at Dig This pushing around dirt, 1-ton tires and rocks that don't move when you kick them. All it takes is a 10-minute classroom lesson and guidance from trainers through headsets.

Mary Fitzsimons says she thought working her excavator would be clunkier. But she spent about two hours digging a trench, moving huge tires and using the machine's bucket to scoop basketballs atop cones.

Dig This owner Ed Mumm says toying with heavy construction equipment is a diversion that takes participants completely out of their everyday lives.
