The violence erupted at a business called Zone d' Erotica. Police got a report about a robbery in progress. An off-duty officer who was in the area responded.
He says he saw two men leaving the store with clothes and cash. He says he ordered them to freeze and identified himself as a police officer, but instead of giving up, the suspects allegedly pulled out guns and started shooting.
The officer turned fire, hitting one man while the other ran away.
The officer was not hurt. The wounded suspect was taken to Ben Taub Hospital.
