Trial begins for two in deadly racing accident

HOUSTON

Prosecutors claim Christopher Yovino and Brett Taylor admitted they were racing and that the evidence will show they were traveling side by side at 93mph when Yovino's SUV slammed into Mayra Torres' minivan, killing her, her 14-year-old son and six-year-old daughter.

Defense attorneys say there's a mistake in that science, and that the boys were not racing, but driving 50mph, which is about 10 miles over the speed limit, at the time of the crash.

Both Yovino and Taylor are facing three counts of manslaughter each. The accident happened on September 27, 2010.

Both Yovino and Taylor are out on bond. Prosecutors say this was a pointless, senseless crash that was totally preventable. Defense attorneys say what happened is a tragedy, not a crime.
