It was a busy night for firefighters on both sides of town, who battled separate house fires

The first one broke out in Houston's south side. Crews were called to a home on Keystone at Cullen. They found flames shooting from an abandoned house and had to go into defensive mode to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring homes. The fire was so intense it briefly knocked out power to the area. The home is a total loss. There is no word on how it started.

The second fire was on forest dale at Forest View on the northeast side just some 30 minutes later. The homeowners say they had just arrived home from the store when they started to smell smoke. They called 9-1-1 and crews quickly put out the flames. There's no word on what started the fir, so arson investigators are looking into it.
