Austin Lyric Opera selling building to save money

AUSTIN, TX

Board chairperson Jo Anne Christian said Thursday that the planned sale of the complex, which opened in 2000, is meant to gain efficiency and sustainability. The building, with soundproof studios and rehearsal space, is listed for $5.6 million.

The general director, Kevin Patterson, resigned in May as the opera faced nearly $2 million in debts. Interim director Kevin Smith formerly was CEO of the Minnesota Opera.

The Austin American-Statesman (http://bit.ly/rfxzQR) reported Thursday that no new site has been chosen for the opera offices and rehearsal sites.
