Poll: Debt ceiling fight hurts Obama in Florida

TALLAHASSEE, FL Fifty percent of voters surveyed randomly by telephone from July 27-Aug. 2 by Quinnipiac University said Obama would not deserve re-election if the election were held today. However, Mitt Romney was the only announced Republican candidate with enough support in the poll to give Obama a strong challenge. Both were favored by 44 percent of those questioned.

Obama's job approval rating in Florida was 44 percent compared to 51 percent who disapproved, a sharp drop from a 51-43 favorable rating he enjoyed in a May survey by Quinnipiac. The margin of error in the survey of 1,417 voters was plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.
