Low-income youth program receives camera donations

HOUSTON

The Project Row Houses' kids summer program Tuesday afternoon received 36 cameras from the Houston Camera Exchange and $2,000 from HEB, along with $1,900 in donations from individuals motivated by an online campaign organized by FotoFest and Literacy Through Photography teacher Ben DeSoto.

Earlier this month we told you that someone stole 36 point-and-shoot cameras from the Third Ward based program when someone broke into Ben DeSoto's car. DeSoto runs FotoFest's Literacy through Photography classes.

Forty students shared five cameras to put together an end of summer photo exhibit, opening at Project Row Houses on August 13. Now they have the equipment needed to complete their project.
