Police: No evidence of foul play in mom's disappearance

RALEIGH

Police say they found Laura Ackerson's 2006 white Ford Focus on Wednesday near an apartment building at 5400 Summit Manor Lane in north Raleigh. That's exactly one week since she was last seen.

However, there have been no other signs of the mother of two.

Investigators say Ackerson last saw her children, who live with their father in Raleigh, on July 13.

Ackerson supposed to see her children again on Friday. According to family members, she was scheduled to meet her ex-boyfriend and the kids in Wilson, but she never showed up.

"I'm not the only person that's worried about her," said Chavon Mathes, Ackerson's co-worker.

Mathes called police when Ackerson didn't show up for work Monday. She is unable to make sense of her co-worker's disappearance.

"I don't want to think the worst, but it's almost like, what is there left to think?" Mathes asked.

Friends, family and co-workers say Ackerson would never abandon her children.

"I'm very worried about her because she's always at the house," co-worker Kecia Mayo said. "She never misses picking up her kids, or anything. It's just kind of weird that she just go missing like that."

Ackerson's brother is hoping for his sister's safe return.

"I hope that she comes back safely and that there's a quick ending to this," Jason Ackerson said.

Police say there's no evidence to believe foul play is involved in her disappearance.

If you have information on Laura Ackerson's whereabouts, or if you have seen her within the last week, call the Raleigh Police Department.
