Suspect sought in fatal hit-and-run in League City

LEAGUE CITY, TX

On March 29, 2009, at approximately 7am, a League City patrol officer located a male lying on the east side of the roadway in the 1300 block of Dickinson Ave. EMS arrived on scene and found the subject to be deceased. After a crime scene investigation was conducted, it was determined that a vehicle had struck the victim, Maurice Jones, 34, and fled the scene.

League City detectives followed up on several leads, including an anonymous note left at the scene which authorities say basically apologized, saying, 'I have a family.' Detectives say none of the leads came to fruition.

Then on July 12 of this year, League City detectives received a phone call and the caller advised that they had information on the hit-and-run accident in which Jones had been fatally struck. After interviewing the caller and several other persons of interest, detectives were led to believe that Alejandro Garcia, 17 at the time, was the driver who had stuck Jones.

Garcia, now 19, has been charged with failure to stop and render aid, a third degree felony, and a $50,000 bond has been set.

Anyone with further information pertaining to this case or Alejandro Garcia's current location are encouraged to call the League City Police Criminal Investigations Division at 281-338-8210.
