Two killed when taxi slams into big rig

HOUSTON The incident happened Friday afternoon on the Eastex Freeway near Laura Koppe. According to Houston police, witnesses say the taxi driver was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic when he struck the rear of the 18 wheeler.

Two elderly women who were passengers in the taxi were killed in the wreck, police say. One woman died on the scene while the other woman was transported to the hospital where she died.

Police say the taxi driver will be charged with criminally negligent homicide if he survives. His condition is unknown at this time.
