Former deputy convicted of sexual assault of child may get new trial

HOUSTON

Paul Briones was found guilty last month on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14. Briones' defense attorney made the motion for a new trial to a judge this morning, saying during deliberations, the jury looked at evidence that wasn't admitted during the trial.

We should know next week if he does get a new trial.

Briones is still facing separate charges of indecency with a child and having an improper relationship with an jail inmate. He has not yet been tried on those charges.
