HOUSTON --A murder charge has been filed against a man accused of fatally shooting a jewelry store owner during a robbery. Anhony Parks, 23, is charged with murder in the 339th State District Court. He was arrested Thursday without incident. He is being held on a $100,000 bond. Parks is accused of killing 52-year-old Mehmood Ghaznavi during a Tuesday night robbery at his east Houston business, Java Gold Jewelry at 5500 Yale. Ghaznavi was struck in the chest by a bullet during a shootout with the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Ghaznavi had purchased a gun after he was targeted last year during another violent robbery, during which three suspects pistol whipped him while demanding cash. Parks was convicted of misdemeanor theft in 2008.
