SWAT standoff in SE Houston ends peacefully

HOUSTON A woman called police, claiming her husband had beaten her at their home on Boffum near Airport. Officers talked to the suspect, Centel Willis, 30, through the windows for 45 minutes. Then they set up a perimeter and called a SWAT team.

"Before the SWAT team arrived, patrol officers were able to talk the suspect into releasing his seven-year-old daughter, as well as a couple of other family members who were inside the house," said John Cannon with the Houston Police Department.

Willis surrendered peacefully a short time later. He will be charged with felony assault.

Police say Willis claimed he'd just been released from jail for family violence three weeks ago.
