Commuters in North Texas have another option. A new 21-mile passenger rail line dubbed the A-train is in service between Denton and the Dallas suburb of Carrollton, with the first trips before dawn Monday.

Denton is home to the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University, with combined enrollment topping 45,000. Special fees are available for students and staff to use the rail line.

The project involves the Denton County Transportation Authority and links to services provided by Dallas Area Rapid Transit and the Fort Worth Transportation Authority.

The A-train route is just east of Interstate 35.
