Grand jury looking at day care owner's murder charges

HOUSTON

Tata's attorney, Mike Deguerin, told us murder charges against Tata were presented to a grand jury today. She is accused of leaving seven children alone at her daycare in west Houston in February. A fire erupted in the house, killing four children and hurting three others.

The DA's office told us the case is still being presented to the grand jury.

Tata faces nine counts in all, including four counts of felony murder. She also faces three counts of abandoning a child under 15, and two counts of reckless injury to a child.

The felony murder charges carry a punishment of up to 99 years in prison.
