A seven-year-old boy tried to save a younger relative found floating in a family pool, but he was too late. The drowning happened in the 800 block of Ave I at about 5:15pm Thursday. According to the South Houston Police Department, there were several relatives at the home when they realized they had lost sight of a 1½-year-old boy for a couple of minutes. During a search for the toddler, the boy's seven-year-old uncle discovered him floating face down in an above ground swimming pool located in the backyard.

The older child reportedly jumped into the pool and grabbed the victim, while screaming for help. He brought the toddler over to the steps of the pool where the victim's mother helped pull him from the pool. The boy was unconscious and not breathing, according to the report given authorities.

When police and EMS arrived, CPR was being conducted on the little boy. The victim was transported to Bayshore Hospital in Pasadena by South Houston EMS with CPR in progress and according to a report was then transported by Life Flight to Hermann Hospital in the Medical Center. The victim reportedly passed away at approximately 2:30am Friday morning.

The incident is still under investigation.
