Husband, 72, charged with attack on wife

SOUTH HOUSTON, TX South Houston police say that just before 7pm Wednesday, Joel Loera Alvarado got into an argument with his wife, Guadalupe Alvarado, at the couple's home in the 500 block of Minnesota. Guadalupe, 75, told police she overheard her 72-year-old husband on the phone with another woman. She said when she confronted Joel about the phone call, he became outraged and used profanity toward her.

Guadalupe told police Joel threatened to kill her as he threw her down on the bed and held a pillow over her face until she had difficulty breathing. The pillow was reportedly removed just before Guadalupe lost consciousness.

Joel Alvarado has been charged with felony family violence. He is being held at the Harris County Jail without bond.
