The rain has been causing power lines across the city to spark and some even caught fire.

CenterPoint Energy says last night's power outages were weather-related. The rain caused a transformer on Mangum and the Northwest Freeway to blow. Homes and businesses in the area were left in the dark.

CenterPoint says since it hasn't rained in so long, contaminants have collected on the power lines. The rain combined with those contaminants and caused electrical arcing, which caused the outages.

At its peak, there were 18,000 customers without power. Most of the power has been restored.
