Houstonians celebrate Cinco de Mayo

HOUSTON It was on this day in 1862 when a Mexican militia defeated French forces at the battle of Puebla. Even though Mexico eventually lost the war, some historians argue the battle influenced the outcome of the American Civil War by preventing Napoleon from supplying the confederate rebels.

Cinco de Mayo is celebrated nationwide in the U.S. and part of Mexico. It's usually a day filled with parades, dancing and music.
