The officer saw a mattress in the middle of the highway, so he stopped, turned on his police lights, got out and started moving the mattress.
Just then, police said a man driving a Mitsubishi slammed into the back end of the police car, pushing the police car into the officer who was standing in front of it.
The officer was knocked to the ground, but only suffered minor injuries.
Investigators said the driver of the car that hit him was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
