Bank giving $300,000 for Harbor Bridge lights

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reported Tuesday that the money, added to $1.9 million budgeted for the Harbor Lights project, will come from American Bank.

The Corpus Christi-based bank offered to close the funding gap after the initial cost estimate came in higher than anticipated.

City leaders on April 19 approved increasing the contract for the lighting project to accept the contribution. The donor was not immediately made public.

Bank president Al Jones says you can't travel to Corpus Christi without seeing the "iconic" Harbor Bridge.

The city, the Port of Corpus Christi and the state are sharing costs to install and maintain the LED lights.
