HOUSTON --Texas is commemorating the 175th anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto. It was on this day in 1836 when General Sam Houston and his Texan army attacked Santa Anna's Mexican forces during their siesta. The victory led to Santa Anna's capture and paved the way for the Republic of Texas to become an independent country.
A ceremony is scheduled at the San Jacinto Monument. It begins at 10:30am. Former Governor Mark White is this year's speaker.
