Motorcyclist dies after highway crash

HOUSTON Police said the man was traveling south on the West Loop at a high rate of speed around 9:15pm Saturday.

According to witnesses, he was weaving in and out of traffic and suddenly lost control over San Felipe. Police say the motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, struck traffic barrels on the Westheimer exit ramp, causing the bike to skid on its side across the main lanes of the Loop about 100 yards.

The 21-year-old victim was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Houston police shut down the West Loop while they investigated the accident, creating a traffic backup all the way to U.S. 290.
