Driver dies in fiery wreck at construction site

A driver was burned inside his Jeep that crashed in a construction site in northwest Houston overnight. It happened around 1am on Pinemont near Balbo. Pinemont is down to two lanes and 30 miles an hour because of construction in the area and police say the driver was speeding down that road.

Officers said he drove into the construction area instead of staying on the safe portion of the road, and crashed in part of the construction area where concrete had not yet been poured. The Jeep flipped and when it landed, caught fire.

"It appears that he was travelling at a high rate of speed, based on the impact, at which point he loses control and it catches fire," said Sgt. I. Izaguirre with the Houston Police Department.

The driver was trapped and died at the scene.
