Man arrested in pregnant woman's purse snatching

HOUSTON Meadows Place police arrested Daryl Ray Waitschies, 24, of Stafford, for the robbery of the 21-year-old woman on March 30.

The victim, who is six months pregnant, was assaulted as she left the CVS Pharmacy at the corner of West Bellfort Avenue and Dairy Ashford Road. The man grabbed her purse and pulled her down, dragging her several feet along the sidewalk before she let go of the purse.

A police investigation indicated the same man might be a suspect in similar crimes in Houston. Harris County Crime Stoppers received an anonymous tip regarding this case which was forwarded to both Meadows Place police and Houston police on Tuesday. The suspect was subsequently identified as Waitschies.

On Tuesday, Waitschies was arrested in the Mission Bend area for two outstanding traffic warrants. He is being held in the City of Houston Jail and remains under investigation for other crimes there. He will be transferred to the Fort Bend County Jail upon release from Houston.

Police say Waitschies has confessed to the robbery in Meadows Place. He's charged with robbery, a second degree felony. Bond has been set at $250,000 in the Meadows Place case.

Waitschies has prior convictions including theft, drug charges and DWI.
