Tragedy unfolded in northeast Harris County as a baby reportedly left unattended in a bathtub ended up drowning. According to detectives, it happened around 9:30pm last night on Oakwick near Valiant when the family finished dinner. Detectives say the toddler's father put the 17-month-old and her two-year-old sister in the bathtub with running water. He apparently got a phone call, walked away and left the two children in the tub.

"He left them unattended for a while and when he returned, the tub was overflowing and one of the children was floating in the bathtub," said Sgt. Wayne Kuhlman with the Harris County Sherriff's Office.

The infant was transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she died. Family members tell Eyewitness News it has been very tough for the father, who is absolutely distraught.

Detectives say it will be up to a grand jury to decide if anyone should face charges in this case. So far, there is no one in custody.
