Detectives are searching for a sex offender accused of failing to register as such and allegedly soliciting a minor via the internet.

Jean Pierre Mierau, 35, is wanted on one count of failure to comply as a sex offender and two counts of online solicitation of a minor, according to a Crime Stoppers statement. He was convicted in 2001 for the aggravated sexual assault of a child in Harris County and sentenced to five years in prison.

Mireau was released on conditions he would register annually as a sex offender. In November, he registered his home address to be near the 15000 block of Paso Real, but authorities say he hasn't lived there since January.

On March 15, authorities tracked down Mireau and arrested him in connection to two cases of online solicitation of a minor but he bonded out within days. A week later, authorities charged him with failure to comply as a sex offender.

Authorities say Miereau didn't appear at his scheduled court date, so a manhunt is now underway.

Mierau is described as a white male, 6 feet tall and weighs around 160 pounds. He has brown eyes, black hair with a medium complexion.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
