HPD teaches residents car safety

HOUSTON

Police went to the community family center in east Houston to educate residents about protecting their vehicles. The cops said people should avoid leaving valuables like purses and phones out in the open and to not try to hide them in their vehicles.

"If you arrive to your destination and you make all that movement or you initiate to hide it, somebody else could be seen and monitoring you, and if they see you moving around, you're obviously giving them a tell tale sign that something of value is what you're trying to hide," said Officer F.M. Salazar with the Houston Police Department.

The police say the best thing to do to protect your valuables is to take them with you when you get out of your vehicle.
