A woman was fatally struck by a car during morning rush hour in southwest Houston. Shortly after 8am, the woman was walking on Rampart, crossing Westpark, but traffic had the green light. A witness said the woman was running across the intersection against the light when she ran in front of a car and was struck. The driver tried to slow down, but the victim struck her head on the pavement.
Police say the driver stayed at the scene and tried to assist the victim. The victim was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her identity has not been released at this time.
The driver gave a statement to police. No charges are expected to be filed.
