Gov promises facelift to NJ's 'ugliest' building

NUTLEY, NJ Late last year, the same company that owns the Mall of America in Minnesota and the West Edmonton Mall in Canada, signed a letter of intent with lenders of New Jersey's Xanadu complex to complete the development.

At a town hall event Thursday, Christie said the first thing that must be done is change the multicolored, multi-patterned exterior. The dDecor has been a source of curiosity for motorists traveling the New Jersey Turnpike.

Christie called the complex the ugliest building in the state "and possibly America" and "a reminder of the failure" of the sprawling $2 billion complex, which was originally slated to open in 2007.
